The North Family Homes in Northdene, Durban – Bonavista

The North Family Homes in Northdene, Durban – Bonavista

The criminals are at work everywhere in this country!!

George and Annie North arrived in 1860 and set up a successful businesses in Durban. They also acquired and farmed in Northdene. The North’s were great benefactors and donated North Park to the Natal Parks Board. They owned two homes on a large site, one which was named Bonavista, built in 1904, by Herbert North, and the second built in 1914 for William Stranack, Herbert’s brother in law. Over the years the property has changed hands but until recently the homes were cared for.

Recently, Bonavista has been burnt to the ground and the other home gutted. This is a deliberate act and  criminal offence. No doubt the owners want to develop this large property. As is normal, no action will be taken. It is no coincidence that both homes have been destroyed.

The Stranack home built in 1914 has been gutted.
