I still hope to photograph King’s House in Morningside but it has the look and feel of Alcatraz, despite not being used too often. Pity our local ruling bosses don’t take a leaf out of Helen Zille’s book. She has opened up the gardens of her residence Leeuwenhof, in Cape Town every Saturday for the Oranjezicht market. I visited this on Saturday and it was great to see Joe Public enjoying the gardens, pool and tennis courts of this old Cape Heritage site. What a great and humble way of staying close to the public you serve, and allowing allowing those interested in the site to have access.
